After a huge delay in procuring the requested iron and steel, a Bates caravan finally leaves Opal for the long journey south.
Mar’Khabazza is looking to put the nail into the Rin’ji coffin. He learns that Quartermaster Davian Vaclav – Rin’ji’s trademaster – is desperate to redeem himself because the trade season kickoff debacle is being placed on his head.
Mar’Khabazza forges a letter inviting Vaclav to Edmonds Crossing to meet a mysterious benefactor who might possibly have a trade deal that would redeem Vaclav. The intent here is to involve Vaclav in some kind of scheme that frames Rinj’ii for an attack on the Bates caravan. Vaclav leaves town in a hurry to meet with mysterious benefactor.
Magnus’ street urchins report that Rinjii owes Merchants guild 25,000
Mar’Khabazza and Ravenna teleport to Edmonds Crossing to hire a band of mercenaries to assault the Bates caravan dressed (poorly) as Chakagari. The intent here is to frame Vaclav and by extension, House Rinj’ii, and create conflict between Bates and Rinj’ii
After waiting a week in disguise to get the timing right, Mar’Khabazza and Ravenna hire mercs and horses and ride north to meet the caravan.

Mar’Khabazza and his band of mercenaries ride out and attack the Bates caravan. Mar’Khabazza, disguised as Davian Vaclav, rides around theatrically to ensure that everyone recognizes him so that the attack can be traced back to Rinj’ii. MK and Ravenna teleport back to salt house to let the resulting events play out.

After returning from Beryl, Logan Danbury proposes to Mar’Khabazza that he needs 16,000 for his manpower project (3,000 silver down payment) that will locate and provide new inhabitants for Beryl.

The Lady Catriona hosts another breakfast and gives Mar’Khabazza his share of the proceeds from the trading.

News of the “Rin’ji” attack on the Bates caravan reaches Opal, sparking a riot in the street between Bates and Rin’ji. The violence spills along the waterworks – Nobles Row – and several are killed.
Mar’Khabazza decides to protect Davian Vaclav who is hiding out at the Captains Table.

Mar’Khabazza pays a visit to Davian Vaclav and persuades him to work in Beryl (MK rolled a 400+ on persuasion). Vaclav pledges his loyalty to Mar’Khabazza and is grateful for the golden parachute.

Mar’Khabazza drafts a letter as Senator to the Opal city council protesting Davian’s innocence.
May 29, 7762
A Opal City Council meeting is called to investigate the violence between House Rin’ji and House Bates.
Muriel Trueheart points out Fimnel the Loremaster of House Rin’ji, naming him “the most dangerous man in Opal.”
The Council rules that House Rin’ji is not presenting itself in a manner that befits a House of Opal. Lord Rin’ji is scolded and chastened in front of the town council and the members of the community present in the gallery – his reputation severely damaged.

Deciding to leave town to let things dimmer for a bit, the troupe departs for Beryl to help in the rebuilding effort and meet the elected officials of Beryl. On the way, the Eilodon – the snow leopard – is spotted sitting on its rock in the scree field.
June 5, 7762
After days of travel, the troupe arrives in Beryl. They arrange to meet each of the candidates for the head of mining operations in Beryl.
June 6, 7762
Dinner with Head Miner Coilspan. His position is that he wants Beryl to be a livable town. He wants to attract miners and families.
Magnus and Ravenna decide to investigate the remote overlook set into the northern cliffs of Opal. They discover a bunch of tools of mundane and arcane in nature and exotic of make, indicating that is has been used as some kind of observatory and research center. Ravenna finds chests of books and tomes and collects some of the volumes for further study (12 human volumes, 6 duergar volumes, 2 winter elf volumes). She discovers that the knowledge spark gives her the ability to speed read.
They also descend into the basement of the observatory, to discover a hollowed out space where the basement used to be. Instead is a perfectly carved out sphere with strange green filaments floating idly in space and randomly winking into and out of existence. AS they descend down the stairs (and Ravenna is eventually lowered on a rope into the chamber) there is a strange phenomenon of ever increasing chill and the draining of arcane power. Mar’Khabazza and Syvania Loresong prove to be practically immune to the effect, but Ravenna is susceptible, eventually being drained of all arcane power and falling unconscious.

Dinner with Prospector Varana. She is exceptional and finding subterranean ore desposits and requests Mar’Khabazza use his influence with the Duergar to have some of the Opal tribe to relocate to Beryl.

Dinner with Miner Grumnal. Grumnal is an old miner with old school knowledge of the mountains. He wants to build a skilled workforce to minimize casualties and encourage good work.

After a few more days of research and lore, the troupe leaves Beryl and heads back for opal.
